Sportfishing aboard the Islander

Best In Class Operations

  • Customer Service

Our sense of pride extends beyond the appearance of the boat to encompass our customers overall experience. Islander Sportfishing is owner operated, meaning every aspect of your trip onboard is overseen by owner Captain John Conniff and on land in the office by owner Juliet Conniff. You are assured a skilled, courteous and helpful crew to make your time on board a memorable one. In fact, we’re so confident of our commitment to service that we guarantee it. If we ever fail to meet your service expectations just let us know and we’ll make it right.

  • Comfort

We know there are many options available when it comes to sportfishing trips. We’ve gone to great lengths to make the Islander the safest and most comfortable boat in her class. From air conditioned stateroom accommodations to a full service chef’s galley, we’ve elevated the short range experience beyond crowded bunk rooms and fast food. Your fishing memories should go beyond time at the rail and we offer the finest of our fleet.

  • Stewardship

Here at Islander Sportfishing we love to fish and we place a high value on the responsible use of our important resource. Sportfishing represents ‘sea to table’ in its most basic form. Our customers get their seafood from the source, harvested in a clean, sustainable fashion with virtually no bycatch. Our product isn’t flown or trucked around the world and we can personally guarantee no dubious techniques are used to make a catch. This is one of the greatest values we offer. As access to our oceans changes with each passing season, we place a greater emphasis on acting as stewards of our oceans. We enforce both American and Mexican fishing regulations and promote the practice of catch and release when practical or necessary.

  • Fish Handling

Islander Sportfishing has remained at the forefront of fish handling techniques. Our aft deck is covered in 5/8” rubber landing mats, eliminating any scratching or tearing of the skin which allows water to penetrate the flesh, degrading the quality of the fillet. All fish are spiked and bled after landing, reducing the damage caused by lactic acid build-up, giving you true sashimi grade quality fish. Additionally, our RSW (refrigerated sea water) fish hold is available for best storage when needed. From the gaff to back at dock, we treat your catch like the valuable commodity it is.

  • Fish Processing

On trips 2.5 days or less, the Islander continues to offer onboard processing once in US waters. We also promote and encourage the use of the three local fish processors available at the conclusion of your trip. On board, we provide excellent fish filleting, but we are limited in what we can do on the back deck at sea. All processors provide exceptional service and have the ability to do so in a clean, controlled environment. They methodically cut your catch and vacuum seal it, leaving you with a top-notch sashimi grade product. For pricing and additional information please follow the links below.

  • Tackle

Tackle is a concern for many anglers, especially with the advances made over the last 5 years. However, it is safe to say that the same principles used for decades still apply for many of the fish we pursue. For the most part, a large investment is not a requirement for a trip. The knowledgeable staff at Fisherman’s Landing Tackle Shop is a great resource when it comes to new purchases or rental gear. For a basic list of tackle recommendations please click here.

  • Environmentally Friendly

We have a passion for the ocean and strive to keep it healthy for our future
generations. The Islander has made big changes over the years by eliminating paper and plastic cups, providing onboard recycling, encouraging all patrons to bring refillable water bottles so they can take advantage of our reverse osmosis filtered water from the tap (plus you’ll save a few bucks by not buying the lesser quality bottled water) and insisting
smokers use our ash cans in lieu of tossing them in the water. Save our seas!
